A Little Horse Trust

What is the purpose of ‘A Little Horse Trust’?

‘A Little Horse Trust’ aims to provide an interactive learning experience of horses and their care, in a safe, controlled environment, to small groups of adults or children who may never have had the opportunity to enjoy these delightful animals.

What does the Trust do?

The Trust provides the opportunity for any member of the public to come along and have their first equine experience with the Trust’s very own pony ‘Connor’, as well as the miniature horses at Kidd’s Stables.  This experience is provided free of charge to individuals and small groups such as families and community groups.  All visits to the Trust are made possible by the work of a few dedicated volunteers.

How do I arrange to visit Connor?

You can arrange to visit Connor by completing one of our booking forms, available on request.  Simply telephone 028 3883 2353 or email alittlehorsetrust@kiddsstables.com

Open Day

At 28 Hunters Hill Road, Gilford

The Open Day on Saturday 9th October was a great success.  We were pleased to welcome almost 200 people into the yard throughout the afternoon.  Everyone who came along enjoyed the experience of meeting Connor and his miniature horse friends and went home with information about the Trust and a booking form which we hope they will use.  Several people left forms with us on the day and I am pleased to report that Connor will be busy for the next couple of months with all the visitors who have arranged to come and see him already!

The Trustees would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day a success. That includes our Corporate Sponsors Wayne Morgan Oils, the Northern Bank, Bracken Equestrian, Johnston’s Saddlery and Surefoot Farriers.  One of the attractions on the day was a tombola, with prizes kindly donated by local business including the Spar in Gilford, Mr Chips and the Northern Bank.  A box of carrots was also kindly donated by Mr Kelson Kilpatrick just for Connor!

A special thank you goes out to two very talented riders, Mrs Elma Lockhart and Miss Maia Kelly who performed a dressage display throught the afternoon, as well as demonstrating their grooming and tacking up skills, much to the interest of visitors on the day!

Corporate Sponsors

A Little Horse Trust is very grateful to the many sponsors who have recently stepped in to offer their support.  Thanks go to Northern Bank who gave a grant of £500 towards the purchase of a special saddle for Connor that will be suitable for use by first time riders.  We would also like to thank Crawford Jackson of Bracken Equestrian (pictured below) who supplied all of Connor’s tack and Joe Johnston of Johnston’s Saddlery in Banbridge for supplying all of the riding and grooming equipment required by visitors to A Little Horse Trust.  The Trust has also found support in the local community from Sponsors Wayne Morgan Oils and Connor is benefiting from the free services of Surefoot Farrier Colin McCormick.
